18 NATURAL GAS NETWORKS
For many residents of Hornsby, wood fired heaters provide an effective, low cost form of winter heating. Notwithstanding, a number of residents have indicated that whilst they would like to move away from wood fired heaters due to their inconvenience and concerns about the health effects of smoke, there are limited cost effective alternatives currently available to them.
Flued natural gas heaters can provide efficient, cost effective winter heating; however this option is often not able to be considered by residents owing to the absence of piped natural gas in their neighbourhood.
Investment by AGL and other gas suppliers to improve the coverage of gas networks within the Shire of Hornsby would provide our residents with greater choice and flexibility in meeting their winter heating needs.

THAT Council write to AGL and other gas suppliers encouraging them to expand the scope of their reticulated gas networks within Hornsby Shire.
