24 OPENING OF THE NEW AQUATIC CENTRE
Hornsby Park has included a swimming pool for the past 50 years. The first swimming pool closed about two years ago and since then Council has worked hard to replace it with a new aquatic centre.
The new state of the art aquatic centre at Hornsby will benefit all residents in Hornsby Shire, from the school children attending school carnivals and the toddlers splashing in the shallow play area to the recreational swimmers doing their laps amid the beautiful outlook over Old Mans Valley. This iconic project will also encourage swimming for those less able residents because disabled access has been an important feature in its design.
Council is very proud of this iconic project, and I am pleased to say that the aquatic centre at Hornsby is on track to open in 2014. Because it is such a significant project, I propose that Council request Australia’s newest and 28th Prime Minister, and Leader of the Liberal Party, Prime Minister Tony Abbott, to officially open the aquatic centre in 2014.

THAT Council write to the Office of the Prime Minister and formally invite the Honourable Tony Abbott MP, Prime Minister of Australia, to participate in the opening of the new aquatic centre at Hornsby in 2014. |
