Mayoral Minute No. MM2/16
Date of Meeting: 9/03/2016
15 HORNSBY KU-RING-GAI WOMEN'S SHELTER
Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the inaugural Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter International Women’s Day breakfast at the St Ives Shopping Village.
The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter has now been operating for twelve months during which time it has housed and assisted 58 clients, of which 85% were able to transition to private accommodation. Unfortunately as many as 241 women had to be turned away.
The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter provides an important service for our community, assisting women in distress, and they have done an outstanding job in this regard. The Women’s Shelter relies upon community support to continue to function and I propose that Council allocate a one off contribution of $10,000 towards this very worthy cause. This contribution would be able to be met through existing budget allocations.
THAT Council make a one off contribution of $10,000 to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter. |
