3 APPOINTMENT TO PANEL TO REVIEW RELIGIOUS FREEDOM LAWS
The purpose of this Mayoral Minute is to advise Council that today I have been appointed by the Federal Government to lead a panel which will have responsibility for reviewing Australia’s religious freedom laws. The panel is due to report back to the Government by 31 March 2018.
In accepting the role offered by the Government, I was cognisant of the need to make sure that my work with the panel would not deleteriously impact on my duties as Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council.
Based on my understanding of the panel role at this time, and my commitments as Mayor during the next few months, I am confident that I will be able to devote my energies in a manner which ensures that both positions are undertaken appropriately and as efficiently and effectively as possible.
