Mayoral Minute No. MM3/22
Date of Meeting: 9/03/2022
11 THE PASSING OF MRS JUDY CADMAN
Council joins with many people in celebrating the life of much-loved Galston resident, Vera Judith (Judy) Cadman, beloved wife of Alan Cadman, long term Member of the Australian House of Representatives, serving the Division of Mitchell.
Judy passed away on Tuesday 15 February 2022, aged 83 years. She was born in Leeton and grew up in Dubbo, becoming a teacher. She and Alan were married for 61 years, spending most of their married life in Galston.
Judy had an unquenchable passion for the arts – performing, playing organ and piano, and making banners and tapestries. She also had a special talent for making banners for churches, making over 150 with many going to the Galston Uniting Church and others going even as far away as North Queensland, where she had formed an enduring association with the First Nations communities in the Cairns district.
Judy was one of the founders of the Dural Musical Society and was herself a strong performer on stage, being an excellent musician and dancer. She was also a dedicated member of the Country Women’s Association, serving on their State Executive and being elected as a life member.
Alongside Alan every step of his long Parliamentary career was Judy who regularly represented Alan at functions when he could not attend. Judy was a kindhearted and compassionate, loving woman who has a remarkable record of community service, but true to her humble nature, she never sought recognition for herself.
We are all poorer for the loss of Judy Cadman and we wish to pass on our heartfelt condolences to the entire Cadman family, her husband Alan, sons Stephen and Andrew, their extended family, and Judy’s many friends.
THAT Council offers its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Judy Cadman whose contribution to community was significant. |
The Honourable Cr PHILIP RUDDOCK
Mayor
