11 DONATION TO RICHMOND TWEED REGIONAL LIBRARY SERVICE
Councillors would be aware that Lismore library and other libraries in the Richmond Tweed Regional Library Service area were impacted by the devastating floods earlier this year. It is estimated that more than 30,000 library items were destroyed when the bottom two floors of the Lismore Library were flooded. An unknown number of items on loan to members were also destroyed in flooded homes.
Collections affected by the floods in Lismore were adult fiction, large-print books, junior non-fiction, junior and young adult fiction books, children’s storybooks and non-fiction books on parenting as well as audio books and children’s DVDs.
In response to the disaster in Lismore, and the effect on its public library service, I am seeking Councillors support to donate $5,000 to assist in rebuilding their collections so the residents in the Richmond Tweed region can again enjoy their library service.
This would be achieved by donating $5,000 from Hornsby Library’s resource budget via our common supplier James Bennett who will procure, tag and cover the new items selected by the Richmond Tweed Regional Library Service and store them until they can be used by the library service.
